Past Goals
(Past Three Years)
1.
The faculty will
become more accurate in determining and documenting how students learn, showing
a variety of teaching methods and strategies that are used to meet the needs of
each multiple intelligence style.
This goal was accomplished
through methods listed below.
·
Student surveys
·
Classroom observation
·
Teacher planning binders
·
Student multiple intelligence eight pocket folder
2.
A variety of Assessments, including rubrics
will be used to determine the level
of skills(diagnostic); provide
direction for improvement ( formative); and provide information to be used in
making a final judgment about students’ achievement.(summative)
To meet this goal faculty members
became proficient, consistent and accurate in using diagnostic, formative and
summative assessments.
3.
We
will make better use of the results of the Terra Nova testing and the IHM
maintenance sheets to determine areas that need to be strengthened.
The entire school community was
given an explanation of Terra Nova testing and its use in determining
students’ strengths and weaknesses. Weekly
maintenance sheets are used in Mathematics and ILA to strengthen skills and
determine weaknesses.
4.
The faculty will attend workshops and in-service classes on the
topic of multiple intelligence, brain research, flexible grouping, authentic
assessment, differentiated instruction and other related topics.
Throughout the year the faculty
has the opportunity to attend workshops and in-service programs to further
professional development and to better facilitate students learning. These
classes are held at St. David school, the MCUI and at other sites. This provides
them with a variety of strategies that can be used in the classroom.
Present and Future Goals
1.
Lesson plans will indicate the specific multiple intelligences being used.
Weekly lesson plans will
highlight the specific learning styles. To
achieve this, teachers will utilize a standard summary chart of Howard
Gardner’s Theory of Multiple Intelligences.
2.
Assessment practices
will be strengthened, varied and meaningful.
Diagnostic- prior knowledge will
be assessed frequently through pretesting, classroom discussion and other
informal observations.
Formative- assessment will be
ongoing, both formal and informal and will drive instruction.
Summative- Unit tests, skills
tests, reports, projects and student presentations will be used to determine
mastery of skills.
3.
We will use technology to improve communication within the school
community.
Our school has a website with an
online link to each faculty member.
This provides for ongoing
communication from the teacher concerning all areas of the classroom. Parents
are able to contact the teacher through this website.
Teachers will use an online
grading system that allows parents and guardians to access their children’s
grades.
Project Evaluation
The nature of our Project, Celebrating our Uniqueness,
Linking Multiple Intelligences features Howard Gardener’s Theory of Multiple
Intelligence. It is our desire to
move away from methods that employ only lectures, worksheets and textbooks and
to move toward a more meaningful way to provide opportunities for children to
learn. We plan to offer a variety
of assessment opportunities to facilitate effective learning. Because we educate
the whole child, parental involvement is a necessary part of this process.
Our entire school community willingly embraced the
challenge to use the Multiple Intelligences in the classroom. We are committed
to developing all areas of intelligence as our students grow into adulthood.
